May Happenings

Well, this past month has been a busy one! I thought the school year couldn't end any sooner, but then I looked up and it was over! Now I'm home for the summer and enjoying #lifeoflevi. 

Let's recap what happened in May:

Levi had to get his 9 month check up at the end of April and got 2 shots as well as his blood tested. He actually didn't cry and was curious about his big bandage from his finger prick. 

Levi enjoyed his first Boy's Day and played around with his toy that Grandma bought him. Grannie also sent him Daddy's fish from when he was younger. We need to find a large enough pole to hang that fish outside.

We got a chance to make it up to the north shore (Kalihiwai) because some friends rented a house right on the beach. It was fun hanging out with them for the afternoon. The mamas and papas were jumping in the water with the surfboards and playing in the sand with the kiddos. Aunty Char dug Levi a hole to play in, and we didn't have to worry about him going anywhere. We did have to monitor his sand intake though!

Uncle Jed came to visit Levi and hang out for a day. We decided to go down to Kalapaki beach and hang out there. Levi is so much happier on the beach. Uncle Jed was happy to see him, even if it was only for a day.

Then it was off to Maui for Aunty Traci's graduation! We were able to take the direct flight to and from Maui. Levi was squirmy going there, but I'm glad there were two of us to pass him back and forth.

 We attended Aunty Traci's graduation ceremony at the Maui Beach Hotel. Levi was so flexible. We were worried that he would be grumpy, but he managed to stay awake until 10 pm! We had Traci's celebratory dinner at the Dunes.

The next morning we headed down to Kihei to meet up with the Yamadas. They packed the SUP boards, but it looked like it was too windy, so we headed out to Wailea and let the kids play in the sand/water.... and yes, Levi had to make sure he had his fair share of sand!

We then headed up to Kula Hospital to visit Grandma Nakamura for lunch (early Mother's Day). Grandma Nakamura loved Levi and said how "smat" he was! Uncle Glenn always brings yummy food for these lunches too.

Happy Mother's Day - May 12th! Levi actually started saying "mum mum" this past week. We weren't sure if he was saying food or me, but it was perfect timing for my first Mother's Day. We went to a brunch buffet at the Kahili Golf Course. 

The last week of school, I organized a Rocket Launch Project for my 9th graders. They had lots of fun, and it was a great end to a challenging year (half-time was great, but difficult).

On the last day of school, I stayed the full day to clean up my classroom, and Darin had the day off to hang out with Levi. We still made it to the beach for the afternoon and then to the airport for our fun guests... The Yamadas!

Darin's been meaning to build Levi his fire truck (courtesy of Home Depot) and building it with Cade was a perfect opportunity!

Cade and Kendyll bought Levi a Lightning McQueen Car to ride around the house - the same one they have at home and love! 

They all tried to help Darin build it. Not sure if they were more of a help or a hindrance! Haha! 

We took a short walk to the pond behind our house and tried to "fish". Darin actually had a big bite when we put a huge piece of bread on the hook!

The quickest catch and release we've seen to date! We didn't even get a picture of Darin holding the fish!

Levi is crawling all over the place and getting into things. His latest trick is opening the puffs container with his teeth. This only took 1 second and look what I found!

April Showers?

Darin has two major projects he wants to get done before summer hits, or hopefully before Levi starts walking. 1) Putting in a sprinkler system, and 2) laying tile on our back patio and front door step. Darin did a lot of research, and enlisted the help of a friend to help him with his first project. He's been working really hard during the weekends, but the crazy weather hasn't been cooperating. The two weekends he planned on getting the trenching and laying of pipes done, the weather had forecasted thunderstorms and flash flooding. It was a waiting game, and Darin ended up doing a lot of the work during the work week instead of hoping to finish it in one weekend. It's now early May, and he's outside filling all the trenches back up as I write this post. We are so proud of him figuring out how to do the irrigation, and Levi is looking forward to playing on some grass soon. Let the weed pulling commence! Anyone want to join?

April Happenings

Levi turned 9 months at the end of April and is becoming more and more interactive, finding more of a predictable schedule, and happier during his awake times. He's crawling everywhere, and also putting everything into his mouth - including Tobi's KIBBLE! He loves his solid food, and is open to trying new things... He didn't really like Greek yogurt though!

Uncle Jed decided to make a quick trip and visit us. Levi enjoyed playing peek-a-boo with Uncle Jed, and Levi and also loved his ukulele skills.

Shane and Stacey are expecting a baby girl in early June, so we had a bbq and baby shower for them at the beach. Stacey has to move to Oahu at the beginning of May because she plans to give birth at Kapiolani Medical Center. 

I got to go to Oahu on April 12th for the day to grade AP Calculus practice exams. We decided to make an afternoon out of it and rescheduled our flights. I got to meet up with Royce and Amy, and they took me to a Koren style yakiniku - all you can eat. It was yummy, and the boba tea we had after was also very good! This was also Darin's first FULL day with Levi all by himself! I left before Levi woke up and came home after he fell asleep. Darin kept me updated on their progress with picture texts, and they had a successful day - daddy did say that Levi was wanting his mommy by the early evening though. 

As you have seen in the earlier post, we have been taking Levi to Kalapaki beach a lot. Levi is starting to exhaust all of the toys and things in our house that sometimes we both go crazy! It's very worth it to pack up the car, make the short drive down to the beach, and play with Levi on the beach and in the water. I haven't seen him fussy at all during our times at the beach and the time just flies by!

At the end of the month, our dear friend - Ben Ahn - came back from San Francisco to visit and attend the wedding of our other friends, Reiko and Dalton. It was a beautiful wedding! We got to reconnect with friends we haven't seen in a while, and eat lots of good food. 

The wedding was at the beautiful Iliahi Estates.

Beach!

Levi loves the beach and the water, he even is curious about the sand in his mouth! He kept putting sand in his mouth then giving this face like "yuck, this isn't food". Even with SPF 50, Levi has some of daddy's dark skin... He is blacker than mommy!
