Moving our furniture!

So we got a lot of things into our new home this weekend thanks to some awesome friends! Lance and Leah showed up early so we got started. Dicky and Jenny (our wonderful neighbors from upstairs) offered to help out too. Dicky drives the Ice Truck and uncle clement said that we could use it to move our things so it worked out so well! We moved all of our large things like our sofa, bed, dressers, dining table, nightstand, etc. So last night we ate dinner on our rug like a picnic! And slept on our sleeping bag. Hahaha. So after moving all the house stuff in one trip, ben, Andy and Michelle, seth, and mark joined up in lihue and helped move our appliances. What an ordeal that was! There was much teamwork involved, especially to move our fridge :) dang! That thing is heavy! Well, the bottom line is that we really appreciate all of our friends and we couldn't have done all that in so short of a time. Thank u for sacrificing ur afternoon to help us out :) darin is at his new job today learning the ropes and I'm on Oahu for the week at an AP calc class.

We will not be living in our new place just yet. They r still working on some things. So hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks.

Granite...and I better get back to work

Alright last blog, and then I need to get back to work, cause I have a bunch of things I need to close out since I only have a few more days with General Dynamics. So, Darren and the Pohaku Fabrication guys have been coming in this week putting in out granite. It took them about 2.5 days to install the granite and it looks super good. This is one of the last things I was worried about, since counter tops can really make or break your house, but the colors and pattern work perfectly with everything and Pohaku did an fantastic job on the fabrication and installation. Ahhh...we are so close I can taste it.

Moving out

This morning I left a note for Uncle Clement, who is a family friend and our landlord, giving two weeks notice that we will be moving out at the end of this month. Erin and I owe a lot of thanks to Uncle Clement for letting us stay so long in their apartment, and for just being such a nice guy. Uncle Clement is honestly one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He is a busy guy but is always doing things for others, including me and Erin.

Originally I was expecting to be in that apartment for 2 years max, but I think it has been 3 years. Man...time flys, but I am so ready to give up the apartment life. No more small spaces, hot plates, small refrigerator, and especially no more laundro mats...Andy knows what I'm talking about (although I don't think he follows our blog).

Anyways, yesterday I decided since Erin is in Cali and I had nothing to do that I would start cleaning out the cabinets and getting ready to move out. Not sure if that was the best idea, cause right now our place is a disaster, but I guess that's how moving out goes.

Electrical finishes

Yesterday I took off of work to help John with the electrical for our house. Unfortunately things have been going slower than expected, because a while back I bought these cool light switches....well what I thought was cool. Anyways, we didn't take a close enough look at them early on and the other day we found out that they need to be wired a certain way, and of course that is not the way that it was previously wired. In any case John has been a huge help and hopefully we got it correct. I guess we'll find out this weekend when John's dad comes in and sets up the panel and we can test it all out.

Decision made

I have finally made my official decision on the job and I am going to be leaving General Dynamics and taking a job with Advanced Fusion Technologies. I am not quite sure what to expect out of this change, but it seems like it maybe a bit drastic but I am excited. I still have reservations about leaving, but I do feel it is what is best for both my career and for my family (just me and Erin right now...and hopefully for at least another year....wink...wink...hehe...I love you Erin). Haha, well I'll keep you all informed on how that goes.

Getting there

Slowly but surely we are getting there with the house. Seems like my contractor has cracked the whip a bit and is getting our tile guy a bit more motivated, because he seems to be making really good progress and his work is good. I think Brandon guys are getting ready to paint the outside in the next couple of days and our carpet is getting installed on the 20th. So by the 20th if all goes well we should have carpet, counter tops, tiling should be done, paint, and most of the electrical. I asked about the schedule and they said if everything went perfectly we'd be in by the end of the month, but more realistically it will be the first couple weeks of August...bummer...but it is what it is.

I haven't really been super into the house thing the past week anyways, because of this job thing. It has been a really stressful week, but I'm getting closer to a decision. I'll probably make an official decision by Thursday. When I think about how blessed I have been it is crazy that in this horrible economic time when people are losing jobs I am given a job opportunity and although it is stressful I am very thankful.

New Job??????

So the other day I received a call from my former project manager who has a start up company here on Kauai asking if I want a job with them. That was Tuesday and today I had a meeting with him and the others in the company. The interview went well I think, so I'll have to wait to see what they offer me for salary and stuff and decide from there. The end of the meeting was really rushed and that is when he asked what I was hoping to get paid and I think I low balled myself big time. So I will probably have to do a bit more bargaining than I would like to, since I hate when it comes to money.

This has to be one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make in the past several years. I am kind of content with my current job and the people I work with are nothing less than family to me. It is gonna be really tough. Maybe the new job will offer me 1 million dollars...muahahaha and then I won't have to think twice. Probably not so please pray for me to make the right choice for me and for everyone affected.

Slow tile guy and possible new job

I stopped by our house this morning and there wasn't too much new. They are preparing the outside to be painted and probably going to build the columns in the front and in the patio. Last weekend Erin and I spent 8 hours running around Lihue figuring out what we are going to do with our tile for the bathrooms. We had already decided this but the travertine we got from home depot was even lower quality than I had anticipated. I'll post some pics later of our latest choices. I met our tile guy and he was very helpful in picking out what we did, but he must have other jobs because he is moving a bit slowly on ours. This morning it looked like he made good progress but there wasn't anything done all week before that. Hopefully he finishes up the living area and the guest bath by next Friday.

This blog got kind of long so I'll just post another one about my possible new job.
