99% Finished with the Garage
This weekend Erin and I painted the garage floor. It was actually kind of fun. We had to do a couple coats and in the second coat we threw in those flakes they give you. It looked good without the flakes, but I think it adds texture and draws your eyes away from imperfections in the concrete. This morning before work I went over to the house and applied the clear coat, but I ended up with an entire gallon extra so I'll probably go again tomorrow morning and put one more coat. Then we'll be all done. But I still need to make sure I protect it from the plumbers, electricians, and when they pour the driveway. K, hopefully I don't fall asleep at work today. Physical labor is fun, but tiring.

Update w/ pics for Lynn
Yesterday I decided to etch the garage floor in prep for the epoxy. I wasn't going to do this because the epoxy kit I bought said I didn't need to, but after reading around on forums and talking with people it sounded like it was best to fork over some money and labor and do it. After doing it I must say it is pretty awesome stuff, but I still have a lot of spots with red dirt so I think I might have to get some more acid to spot clean/etch those spots. Kauai is pretty famous for Red Dirt shirts and man that stuff does not come off of concrete easily. I really hope I can get this floor done by next week. It really should only take a couple days, but kinda tough with the junk weather and the fact that red dirt sucks.

Fans, Lighting, Appliances and Storage
Lately we have been trying to get all our lighting and ceiling fans ordered, because even though we don't need it yet I like to make sure I have them when they are needed. We ordered a few lights from Home Depot (my new favorite store...and Erin's...she just doesn't know yet), but two out of the four boxes came with broken glass. So I guess it is a good thing we are ordering things early so it gives us time to correct things like this.
Since I end up purchasing a lot of the house stuff early I store it in my office at work, since our apartment is kind of tight and gets a lot of sea breezes, which ruins stuff fast. But, man my office is getting tighter and tighter with boxes of stuff and I can't wait to start clearing it out of here and into our new home.
Along with spending a bunch of money and cleaning the garage floor our friend Troy helped me move some of our appliances into storage till it is needed. We were pretty thankful that Troy was willing to help out, cause I had a good time cruising and he has a truck with a lift gate which was awesome. The refrigerator was ridiculous to move, but we had a good plan and kind of did it County worker style. Basically I stood and supervised Troy as he did all the manual labor...haha (Sorry if anyone who is reading this is a County worker...just using the general stereotype for comedic effect).

Garage Floor
So we decided to try to epoxy coat our garage floor, so I went and bought the stuff this weekend and we started cleaning the floor. It took us about 4-5 hours to tape up the walls so the drywall wouldn't get wet and to power wash and scrub the floor. Thankfully the cleaning seemed to go well, although Kauai red dirt doesn't come off easily. I'm hoping to get the garage done by the end of the week, so I will probably be ditching in and out of 
work all week.

Tile, granite, and other stuff.
As of right now we are still hopeful that we will get in by June/July, so there are a lot of decisions to make as far as the finishes go. This past week I was on Oahu for business but had some time in the evenings to go check out some tile and granite. I think we have decided on the tile for our general living areas, but we are still debating on our bathroom tiles. Oh yeah, tile ain't cheap...especially on Kauai!
As far as granite counter tops go, I think we have figured that out and luckily our friend Darren who works for Pohaku Fabrication (small kine marketing plug), is helping us out. The hard thing (which is also the nice thing) about granite is that it is a natural stone and no two slabs are alike. So we like this granite called Kashmir Gold, but I swear some slabs of it I like and some I don't. Kinda tricky.
As for the other stuff, the last things that have been going on is that we got in our trim pieces, interior doors, closet layouts, and drywall is done. Oh yeah, and we ordered all our appliances from Sears, but I'll let Erin tell you guys about that ordeal.
So, when I was thinking about our closets all I was thinking was what I was used to growing up, which was a single bar to hang clothes on and a shelf above it. But like all other aspects, Chris, Brandon, and Jarod are truely in the business of custom homes. It is pretty hard to see the layout of the built-in shelving that is penciled in in one of the smaller closets, but there are going to be built in cubes and multiple shelves and rods for shirts and long stuff like pants and dresses. These guys always seem to surpass our expectations...and I have pretty particular expectations.
Finally, one day last week I went over to the lot and Brandon had some samples of some ceiling textures that the drywall guy could do. Of course I didn't really have a good picture in my mind of this and I just went with what seemed okay and what Brandon said was his favorite. When I went home I was really worried it was going to look weird, but they finished it up the next day so I couldn't change my mind anyways. Erin and I couldn't make it over to the lot for a while so I was worried about my decision for a while and Erin's parents actually saw it and said it was nice and looked like a fern leaf...I was honestly thinking aw man I dunno about fern leaves. But we checked it out and it actually looks great.

So, I told my mom on Thursday that I would update our blog this weekend and of course I got caught up with being lazy on the weekend and so it is Monday and I'm only now updating the blog...Sorry mom! Anyways, things are moving along nicely and really coming together. The guys have been working hard on getting our roofing material on, but it was crazy windy last week so it was kinda hard for them, but Erin and I are super pleased with how it looks. I think the roof should be completely done by the end of this week, depending on the weather.
